Ayushman Bharat touches 45 Crore Indian, Marks Major Milestone in India’s Healthcare Revolution: National Health Authority

NEW DELHI: PM Modi‘s Ayushman Bharat scheme, India’s flagship public health initiative, has now benefited over 45 crore citizens, according to the latest annual report by the National Health Authority (NHA).

The report was released during a two-day national review meeting held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, highlighting the remarkable reach and impact of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

NHA CEO Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal (IAS) said the achievement marks a turning point in India’s journey toward universal healthcare.

“Ayushman Bharat, with its four strong pillars, has benefited over 45 crore people. The leadership of State and UT Health Authorities in digital integration will be key to making this the world’s largest transformative health scheme,” he said.

The 2024–25 report detailed the massive expansion of healthcare coverage under the program. Over 9.19 crore hospital admissions have been facilitated under AB PM-JAY, providing treatment worth ₹1.29 lakh crore. More than 30,000 hospitals — 55% government and 45% private — are built nationwide, ensuring accessibility across urban and rural India. Notably, 82% of beneficiaries belong to rural areas, ensuring the program’s reach among underserved populations.

So far, 40.45 crore Ayushman cards have been issued, covering 14.69 crore families, ensuring financial protection against serious illnesses.

The digital arm of the mission, ABDM, has also made major strides. The report noted that 76.5 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) have been created, linking 51.3 crore health records — effectively covering six out of ten Indians.

The ABHA App (Version 3), available in 13 languages, has recorded over 1.57 crore downloads with 2–3 lakh daily tokens generated, easing digital OPD registration and payments through its user-friendly “scan and share” and “scan and pay” features.

The mission also recorded a 96% grievance resolution rate and 95% beneficiary satisfaction, reflecting strong public trust.

Focusing in the growing role of digital infrastructure, Kiran Gopal Vaska (IAS), Joint Secretary and Mission Director, ABDM, said, “Digital public infrastructure in healthcare is not just a tool — it’s a transformation. The ABDM Index will drive accountability and innovation across the ecosystem.”

With over 45 crore citizens impacted, Ayushman Bharat continues to strengthen India’s healthcare delivery system — bridging the gap between data and dignity, and moving the nation closer to the goal of universal, equitable, and digitally enabled healthcare for all.
