CBSE Issues Detailed Subject-Wise Marks Breakup for Class X & XII Exams 2025-26

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released an important circular outlining the subject-wise marks bifurcation for Class X and Class XII examinations for the 2025-26 academic session.

The circular, dated 17 November 2025, also confirms the schedule for Practical Examinations, Project Work, and Internal Assessments, which will be conducted from 1 January 2026 to 14 February 2026 across all affiliated schools.

According to CBSE, schools often make mistakes while uploading marks for practicals, projects, and internal assessments, resulting in requests for corrections later. CBSE Board has clarified that such errors must be avoided and has therefore published a detailed annexure covering every subject offered in Classes X and XII.

The annexed list includes information such as subject codes, theory marks, practical marks, project marks, internal assessment components, type of answer books to be used, and whether an external examiner or Board-supplied practical answer book is required.

As per the circular, each subject carries a total of 100 marks, distributed among theory, practical, project, and internal assessment components, depending on the subject. Subjects without practicals, such as languages, will follow the 80-20 pattern (80 marks theory and 20 marks internal assessment).

Subjects like Music, Painting, Home Science, NCC, Computer Applications, and various Skill Education courses include practical components ranging from 30 to 50 marks.

For Class X, detailed breakup has been provided for all language subjects, Music streams, Mathematics (Standard and Basic), Science, Social Science, Home Science, NCC, Sanskrit, English, Business Elements, Book Keeping, and all vocational subjects like Retail, IT, Security, Automotive, Tourism, Beauty & Wellness, Agriculture, AI, Data Science, and more.

Similarly, for Class XII, the circular includes comprehensive data for all major streams—Science, Commerce, Humanities, and Skill-based subjects. Subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Geography, Computer Science, Informatics Practices, Home Science, Fine Arts, Business Studies, Accountancy, and multiple vocational subjects carry practical components evaluated either internally or with the involvement of CBSE-appointed external examiners.

The CBSE Board has emphasized that schools must ensure the error-free conduct of practical exams and the timely submission of marks. Any delay or inaccuracies could cause inconvenience to students during result processing.

CBSE has urged all affiliated institutions to carefully study the marks distribution before commencing internal assessments or practical examinations.

The circular has been signed by Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, underscoring the seriousness of timely compliance. With the updated marks structure now publicly available, students and teachers can plan their exam preparation and practical work more efficiently ahead of the 2026 Board Examinations.
