Supreme Court of India Announces List of Holidays for 2026
New Delhi: Supreme Court of India has released its official holiday calendar list for the year 2026.
According to the latest gazette notification dated August 28, 2025, the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India has approved the schedule under the Supreme Court Rules, 2013.

The holidays include major national and regional festivals such as New Year (January 1–2), Makar Sankranti (January 14), Republic Day (January 26), Holi break (March 2–7), Id-ul-Fitr (March 21), Ram Navami (March 26), Mahavir Jayanti (March 31), Good Friday (April 3), and Buddha Purnima (May 1).
Other important dates include Id-ul-Zuha on May 27, Muharram on June 26, Independence Day on August 15, Raksha Bandhan on August 28, Janmashtami on September 4, Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14, and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
The Court will also remain closed for longer breaks during Dussehra (October 19–24), Diwali (November 9–14), and Christmas–New Year holidays (December 21, 2026 to January 1, 2027). Guru Nanak’s Birthday will be observed on November 24.

The partial court working days for 2026 will begin from June 1, while the full court will resume regular functioning from July 13, 2026.
This schedule provides clarity for advocates, litigants, and stakeholders in planning their legal proceedings for the upcoming year.
