DoP removed nomination update or cancellation charges for All Post Office Accounts, which means customers can now update or cancel the existing nominee added in their post office account for free.
Good news for all office customers. Department of Posts has removed the Cancellation or change of nomination charges of Rs.50 from all types of Post Office Accounts. Nominee updation charges are removed for all types of accounts under National Savings Schem,e including SB, RD, TD, SSA, KVP, NSC, SCSS, etc.
What is the SB order?
F. No 113-03/2024 vide SB Order No. 05/2025 dated 03.04.2025 a Gazette notification dated 02.04.2025 issued by the Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance in connection with the amendments in rules related to Government Savings Promotion General Rules, 2018.
G.S.R. 214 (E) – Government Savings Promotion General (Amendment) Rules, 2025.
“ln the Government Savings Promotion General Rules,2018, in the Schedule ll, under Fee to be charged for services, the words and figures “(b) Cancellation or change of nomination – Rs.50″ shall be deleted”.
New Post Office Nominee change charges?
According to the SB Order No. 05/2025, the nominee update or cancellation charge of Rs 50 is removed for all types of customer account. That means customers can now update their post office account nominee for free.

How to Update Nominee in your Post Office account?
To update nominee if your post office account, you need to submit Form 10 for Application for cancellation and variation of nomination in an account under National Savings Scheme. Customer are also required to enclose passbook/deposit receipt/statement of account with the form. This all required docuemnts are needed to be submitted to the post office where you have opened your account.
