Big News by Indian Railways! Railway Board Issues Directive to Address Gender-Specific Concerns of Female Employees
Railway Board under the Ministry of Railways has issued a fresh directive to The General Manager (P), All Zonal Railways & PUS, to address the workplace issues faced by female employees with greater sensitivity and urgency.
As per Railway Board Order RBE No. 57/2025, New Delhi, dated 24.06.2025, the Railway Board has acknowledged concerns raised by staff federations/unions, All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) and the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR). The concerns are raised regarding inadequate responses to category change requests and other issues arising due to gender-specific hardships.
The matter has been examined in the Board’s office and Railways are directed to ensure workplaces under their jurisdiction to be gender neutral, providing just and humane working conditions for the staff.
Railway Board also directed to promptly attend to any issues which might create hardship to а specific gender at their workplaces.
Accordingly, Zonal Railways/PUs are advised by the Railway Board to deal with any such issues on their merits for a suitable intervention to alleviate gender specific distress among employees.
Recently, Indian Railways has introduced a new scheme offering ₹1 crore accidental compensation to Railway employees without requiring them to pay any insurance premium. This shows that railways is changing its workplace policies for the betterment of Indian Railways.
