Big News for GDS Employees! Department of Posts proposes New Non-Monetary Performance-Linked Incentive Scheme for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS)
Department of Posts has proposed a new Non-Monetary Performance-Linked Incentive Scheme for Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) employees. The scheme is an initiative by the Department of Posts to recognize high-performing GDS, encourage a culture of excellence and public service, and support their professional growth through meaningful, career-enhancing rewards that are not monetary in nature.
The Department proposes to introduce this Non-Monetary Performance-Linked Incentive Scheme for GDS via an official notification vide No: 17-22/2025-GDS New Delhi Dated: 18.06.2025.
Non-Monetary Performance-Linked Incentive Scheme for Gramin Dak Sevaks
Under the proposed scheme, the performance of GDS will be evaluated on a monthly basis on different parameters such as account openings, insurance procurement, postal bookings, and government benefit disbursements. Points will be awarded for each activity, with higher points weightage given to GDS employees posted at tribal, hilly, desert, and Naxalism-affected areas due to greater operational challenges.

GDS employees who will acquire the required points consistently over a period of 3 months to two years shall be eligible for incentives. These incentives are non-monetary in nature, which will include priority access to skill development training, early transfer requests (relaxation of the usual two-year requirement), and more opportunities in future departmental exams and promotions.

Incentive for Fulfilling Points Criteria by GDS Officials
Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) employees maintaining the required score for 18 out of 20 months may be allowed to sit for departmental exams with relaxation relaxation of 6 months in the minimum engagement criteria.
GDS maintaining the required score for 36 months out of the last 40 months may be provided one year relaxation for promotion as MTS under the seniority quota.
However, the above relaxation will not be granted to those GDS who have ever been proceeded under Rule 10 of the GDS (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.
The Department has asked for feedback and suggestions from all concerned authorities, including regional heads and GDS unions, to submit their comments and suggest threshold point limits by June 30, 2025.

This initiative is noted as a much-needed factor to appreciate the important role GDS employees play in delivering postal, financial, and welfare services to rural India.
