Big News! Ola, Uber, Rapido Bike Taxis are going to be Banned in this state from June 16 as per High Court Order, check details
Starting June 16, 2025, bike taxi services Ola, Uber, and Rapido are going to be banned in Karnataka state. The Hon’ble Karnataka High Court has issued an order prohibiting these services, declaring them illegal until proper rules are made under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. This decision is expected to impact a large number of daily customers who use bike taxi services and bike taxi drivers, especially in Bengaluru and other major cities of the state.
What did the High Court say?
The Hon’ble Karnataka High Court has ordered to close app-based bike taxi services like Ola, Uber, and Rapido in the state, effective from June 16, 2025. This order was given after hearing the petitions of Ola (ANI Technologies), Uber India Systems and Rapido.
These bike taxi companies demand that their bike taxi service be given legal recognition. Along with this, vehicles with yellow number plates should be allowed to register as transport vehicles. The Karnataka High Court rejected the companies’ petition for interim relief. The court said that these services are illegal without proper rules.

During the hearing, Justice B.M. Shyam Prasad made it clear that these services cannot continue until the Karnataka government implements clear regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act. The court has granted the state government three months to frame and implement new rules.
What was the previous order given before this
Two months back, in April 2025, the Karnataka High Court had granted temporary permission allowing bike taxi services to continue until June 15. With this recent hearing, the temporary relief has ended, and operations must be banned effective from June 16, 2025.
The Karnataka government had initially launched an electric bike taxi scheme in 2021 to provide affordable and quick transportation for daily passengers. However, due to safety concerns and a lack of proper regulations, the scheme was withdrawn in March 2024.
Bike taxis have been a popular choice in cities like Bengaluru for their low ride fares and ability to pass through heavy traffic. With this ban, passengers will now have to rely on alternative transportation options like public transport or a private car.
