New Delhi: Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that all employees, including daily wage and casual workers, will be entitled to a paid holiday on the polling days for the upcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly Elections 2025 and bye-elections in eight Assembly Constituencies.

Under Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, every person employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking, or establishment who is eligible to vote shall be granted a paid holiday on the day of polling.

Employers are prohibited from making any wage deductions on account of this holiday, and any violation will attract penalties.

ECI has also clarified that electors working in industrial or commercial establishments outside their home constituency but registered as voters in an area going to polls are equally entitled to paid leave to enable them to cast their vote.

All State and Union Territory Governments have been directed to ensure strict compliance with these provisions so that every voter can exercise their right to vote freely and conveniently.
