ECI Extends Deadline for Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls by One Week, SIR to be completed by Feb 2026

New Delhi: Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in 12 States and Union Territories, extending key deadlines by one week. The revision is being carried out with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date.

The updated timeline is aimed at ensuring smooth completion of field work, polling station rationalization, and verification activities currently underway across the concerned states and UTs.

As per the revised schedule:

Enumeration work and rationalization of polling stations must now be completed by December 11, 2025.

Preparation and updation of control tables and draft rolls will take place between December 12 and December 15, 2025.

The draft electoral roll will be published on December 16, 2025.

Citizens can file claims and objections from December 16, 2025 to January 15, 2026.

Hearings, field verification and final decisions on claims and objections will run concurrently until February 7, 2026.

After verification of roll health parameters, final approval will be obtained by February 10, 2026.

The final list of voters will be published on February 14, 2026.

The Special Intensive Revision plays a crucial role in ensuring that eligible citizens are included in the electoral rolls and polling station arrangements remain accurate and accessible.

The Election Commission assured that the extended timeline will support better transparency, improved voter data accuracy, and increased public participation in the electoral process.
