Election News: West Bengal Election Commission Appoints New Officials Ahead of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bengal
Kolkata: Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed two important officials in West Bengal. Arun Prasad has been named Additional Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO), while Harishankar Panikkar takes charge as Joint Chief Electoral Officer (JCEO).
These appointments come at an important time as the state prepares to ensure its electoral rolls are accurate and transparent.
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process for updating voter lists by enrolling new voters and removing deceased entries is a needful step to maintain electoral integrity. Bringing in experienced and capable officers ahead of this process is expected to improve the work process of ECI.
Arun Prasad, an IAS officer from the 2011 West Bengal cadre, brings years of administrative experience, while Harishankar Panikkar, a 2013 cadre officer. Both were selected from a list of candidates recommended by the state government.
Election Commission has also requested to the state government a new list of names for the post of Deputy Chief Electoral Officer.
