Good News! Fixed Medical Allowance set to increase for Central Government Pensioners from 01.01.2026 by inclusion in 8th Pay Commission Terms of Reference

The Union Government has announced that the Fixed Medical Allowance (FMA) will be increased for government servants starting from January 1, 2026.

This decision was confirmed during the 34th meeting of the Standing Committee of Voluntary Agencies (SCOVA), held on March 11, 2025, under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions (MOS(PP)) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

During the 34th SCOVA meeting, it was highlighted that the current Fixed Medical Allowance is inadequate for the needs of living. The Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare (DoP&PW) referenced recommendations from the Parliamentary Standing Committee, which recommended an increase in the Fixed Medical Allowance to address the financial burden faced by pensioners.

According to the Department of Expenditure under the approval of Ministry of Finance, Government of India, it indicated that this increase would be integrated into the Terms of Reference (TOR) of the 8th Pay Commission. So it is a very good news for central government Pensioners.

How much FMA will increase for Central Government Pensioners?

The committee has decided to increase the Fixed Medical Allowance to Rs. 3000 per month. This increase reflects an understanding of the rising cost of healthcare faced by pensioners.

With the 8th pay commission effective date coming soon, more good news are awaiting for central government employees and pensioners.
