Good News for Post Office Customers! Department of Posts extends e-KYC functionality for operation of RD and PPF scheme accounts, know latest SB order
New Delhi: Department of Posts has extended Aadhaar-based e-KYC services to Recurring Deposit (RD) and Public Provident Fund (PPF) schemes at all departmental post offices. India Post (DoP) aims to simplify, expedite, and digitize banking services for customers.
Previously, e-KYC functionality was launched for opening savings accounts and other popular savings schemes accounts like MIS, TD, NSC, and KVP. From now on, customers can also perform account operations for RD and PPF accounts using e-KYC process.
e-KYC functionality for operation of RD and PPF scheme accounts
Ekyc enabled functionalities in respect of Recurring Deposit (RD) and Public Provident Fund (PPF) schemes, as below, have been developed and deployed in CBS w.e.f 27.06.2025.
- Opening of RD & PPF scheme Accounts
- Acceptance of Deposits in RD & PPF Accounts
- Opening of RD Loan and PPF Loan Accounts
- Disbursement of RD Loan and PPF Loan amount irrespective of amount
- Withdrawal from PPF Accounts irrespective of the limit of amount
- Repayment of Loan in RD and PPF accounts
Using e-KYC-based biometric authentication, customers can complete transactions without filling out forms. Customers or depositors need to provide their fingerprint scan in two steps— first one to give Aadhaar e-KYC consent and the second one to authorize the transaction.
According to the latest SB Order, “Pay-in-slip (deposit) or withdrawal vouchers shall not be collected for any amount of credit and debit in RD, PPF, RD Loan and PPF Loan accounts while performing transactions through eKYC.”

It is also mentioned that “While opening the RD and PPF accounts on Aadhaar Authentication basis, the amount written by the depositor in the Account Opening Form (SB-eKYC-AOF) shall be considered as amount of initial deposit in RD and PPF accounts.”
DoP also clarified that paper-based transactions will remain valid as per previous SB orders.
The Department has also notified all staff in post offices to ensure Aadhaar numbers are masked on any form or document collected. This means the first eight digits should be masked for security reasons. Customers and postal staffs are encouraged to use e-KYC for faster service and smoother account management.
