India Post Increases Speed Post Rates, Adds OTP Delivery and Student Discounts
New Delhi: India Post has increased its Speed Post rates from October 1, 2025, as part of its plan to modernise postal services and improve delivery security.
According to officials, the revised charges will help to upgrade the existing infrastructure of the Department of Posts, to handle growing delivery demand, and introduce new technology-based services.

From now on, Speed Post users can choose secure OTP-based delivery by paying ₹5 extra per parcel, while registered delivery will cost ₹15 per article. Both services aim to make parcel delivery safer and more reliable for end customers.
India Post has also introduced digital upgrades, including:
- Online booking and payment
- SMS delivery alerts
- Step-by-step parcel tracking
- Registration for frequent users
To make services affordable, the department announced a 10% discount for students and a 5% concession for new bulk users.
Officials said the new system is designed to ensure faster, safer, and more customer-friendly postal deliveries across India.
