India Post Issues New SOP for GDS Transfers Under APT 2.0 Portal

New Delhi, October 23, 2025:

Department of Posts has released new guidelines for the joining and relieving process of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) under Rule-3 transfer in the upgraded APT 2.0 system.

The new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be followed for all on-request and mutual transfers from the Rule-3 Transfer Cycle of October–November 2025 onwards.

According to the circular issued by the GDS Section, Dak Bhawan, New Delhi, all approvals, relieving, and joining of GDS after transfer will now be handled completely online through the upgraded portal.

The department has also introduced an option to submit cancellation requests online in case a GDS wishes to withdraw their transfer before joining.

The SOP includes detailed procedures for:

  • Cases where disciplinary or criminal proceedings begin after transfer approval but before relieving.
  • Relieving of female GDS employees on maternity leave.
  • Handling mutual transfers involving promotion, resignation, voluntary discharge, termination, removal, or death of a GDS.
  • A standardized format for issuing relieving and joining orders through the online portal.

This new system aims to make the transfer process faster, transparent, and paperless, benefiting thousands of GDS employees across postal circles.
