Indian Railways New Rule: Reservation Chart Will Now Be Prepared 24 Hours in Advance, get confirm ticket details before travel via email/sms/app notification. Currently, this pilot project has started in the Bikaner Railway division, due to which ticket confirmation will be available in 24 hours advance.

Big news for millions of Indian Railways passengers. Indian Railways has announced a major update in the Railway reservation system. From now on, the reservation chart will be prepared 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train.

Benefit of new rules of reservation chart

This will allow passengers to know the status of their confirmed tickets in advance. Ministry of Railways introduced this new rule as a pilot project in the Bikaner Division. If this pilot project becomes successful, then it is expected to roll out in other divisions soon.

Earlier, Indian Railways used to prepare the first reservation chart 4 hours before the departure time and a second chart 30 minutes prior actual train departure. Due to the new rule, passengers will now have enough time to check whether their tickets are confirmed or still in the waiting list. If you don’t get your ticket confirmed, then you have the option to book Tatkal tickets.

Effect on Tatkal Bookings

It new rule does not apply to Tatkal ticket bookings. The existing Tatkal system remains the same, where bookings open 24 hours before the train’s departure from its origin station. For AC classes, Tatkal booking starts at 10:00 AM, and for sleeper classes, it starts at 11:00 AM on the day before the journey.

Updated cancellation charges

Indian Railways has also updated the cancellation charges under this new system. If a passenger cancels a waiting list ticket for RAC or non-AC class 30 minutes before chart preparation, a charge of ₹60 will apply. For AC class tickets, the cancellation charge will be ₹65.

With this update, Indian Railways aims to improve transparency and provide timely updates to passengers, especially during peak travel seasons like summer holidays. Now passengers will get update about ticket confirmation 24 hours before the journey. With this Indian Railways is hoping to reduce last-minute confusion and give passengers to choose alternative booking options.
