According to railway officials, the move aims to provide greater convenience to passengers during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. The early booking window will help reduce last-minute congestion and ensure smoother journeys across popular routes.

An important update this year is the mandatory Aadhaar authentication rule that came into effect on October 1, 2025. Under this new policy, passengers booking reserved general tickets within the first 15 minutes of the reservation window opening must verify their Aadhaar details. The rule applies to both the IRCTC website and mobile app. Linking Aadhaar to the IRCTC account allows users to access early booking privileges and ensures compliance with the new regulation.

Railway authorities have urged passengers planning to travel during Christmas to book their tickets as early as possible, either through the IRCTC portal or authorized railway booking counters.
