Indian Railways to Run 1,500 Special Trains in Next 5 Days for Chhath Rush — Focus on Safe and Comfortable Travel

Indian Railways has increased its operations ahead of the Chhath Puja and Diwali rush, announcing that 1,500 special trains will run over the next five days to help passengers reach home safely and comfortably. This means an average of 300 special trains per day will operate across various routes to manage the festive crowd.

Over the past 21 days, Railways have already run 4,493 special train trips, averaging 213 trips daily, ensuring that passengers could travel home smoothly for the Diwali celebrations.

According to official data from the Ministry of Railways, a total of over 12,000 special trains will operate during the festive period from October 1 to November 30, 2025. So far, 11,865 trips (covering 916 trains) have been scheduled, including 9,338 reserved and 2,203 unreserved services.

This is a significant jump from last year’s 7,724 special trains, showing Railways’ strong efforts to handle the growing festive travel demand.

To give passengers a better travel experience through trains, Indian Railways has improved facilities and crowd management at major stations.

On 19th October 2025, over 36,000 passengers boarded trains from Udhna Station—a 50% increase compared to 2024. Despite the heavy rush, all passengers boarded by 4 PM, thanks to well-planned arrangements like extra ticket counters, holding areas, and better crowd control.

Passengers across the country have praised the Railways for the improved cleanliness, organized platforms, and courteous staff. Travellers from cities like Jabalpur, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad shared positive feedback about clean coaches, efficient services, and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) assisting elderly and differently-abled passengers.
