NCERT Announces Equivalence Recognition for Class 10, 12 Certificates Across Different School Boards

New Delhi: Ministry of Education has announced that the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will now be responsible for granting equivalence to Class 10 and 12 certificates issued by different school education boards across India.

This update is notified in the e-Gazette on September 6, 2025, ensures that certificates issued by various boards will be recognised uniformly for admissions to higher education institutions and eligibility in Central, State, and Union Territory government jobs.

NCERT to grant equivalence to Class 10 and 12 Certificates across School Education Boards for admissions and government jobs

This notification replaces the earlier arrangement of November 15, 2021, where the responsibility was with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).

NCERT will discharge this new role through PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development), the national assessment centre set up under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The arrangement applies to certificates issued by the Central Government, State Government and private Indian school boards established by legislation, executive orders, or statutory bodies. Once NCERT grants equivalence, it will automatically ensure inter-se parity between all recognised boards in India.

This reform is expected to greatly benefit students moving between different boards, making inter-board migration smoother and eliminating ambiguity around the recognition of certificates.
