New AC Temperature Rule: No More Cooling Below 20°C, Government has set a new limit for AC Temperature, check details

The government has announced a new temperature limit for air conditioners that are being sold in India. From now on, retail customers will not be able to set their AC temperature below 20°C. The government is making this decision to promote energy conservation and have a positive impact on the environment.

Now You can’t set AC Temperature below 20°C

Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar recently shared the details of this new rule for minimum and maximum AC temperatures. According to the reports, the temperature for ACs will now be fixed between 20°C and 28°C. The government believes that this step will significantly reduce electricity consumption for households and reduce the carbon footprint for the country.

Until now, many people and offices have set their ACs at very low temperaturs at 18°C or 19°C, especially during the intense summer heat season. But with this new rule, extremely low-temperature options will no longer be available for customer ACs. ACs in the future will only allow to set the Temperature between the 20°C to 28°C range.

Savings in Electricity Bill

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has supported this decision. Studies show that increasing the AC temperature by just 1°C can cut electricity usage by around 6%. Many people currently set their ACs at 20-21°C, but the ideal comfort level is actually between 24°C and 25°C. If more users switch to 24°C, India could save nearly 20 billion units of electricity every year, which is about ₹10,000 crore in savings.

Comfortness

Low AC temperatures make indoor rooms so cold that people end up wearing warm clothes indoors. Experts say that maintaining a temperature of 24°C is a comfortable balance between cooling and energy efficiency for most houses.

Environment will be benefitted

If implemented, this new rule will also benefit the environment. If even half of the population adopts these changes, then India could save about 10 billion units of electricity and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 8.2 million tons. This would contribute greatly to the fight against climate change.
