New PAN Correction Forms Notified from April 1, 2026: CBDT Issues Order
New Delhi, April 1, 2026: The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has introduced a new framework for correction of Permanent Account Number (PAN) details, notifying revised forms and procedures under the updated tax rules.
The order, issued by the Directorate of Income-tax (Systems), comes into effect from April 1, 2026, under Rule 158(12) of the Income-tax Rules, 2026, read with Section 262(4) of the Income-tax Act, 2025.
Two New PAN Correction Forms Introduced
As per the notification, PAN holders seeking corrections or updates in their PAN data must now use the following newly prescribed forms:
- PAN CR-01: For individuals requesting correction or change in PAN details
- PAN CR-02: For non-individual entities such as firms, companies, or trusts
The forms, along with detailed guidelines, have been provided in Annexure-I of the order.
Online and Offline Submission Allowed
CBDT has clarified that applicants can submit these forms through both modes:
- Online: Via authorised platforms such as
- Protean eGov Technologies
- UTI Infrastructure Technology and Services Limited
- Offline: By visiting designated PAN service centres of the above agencies
Aim: Standardised and Streamlined Process
The move is aimed at standardising the PAN correction process under the new income-tax framework and ensuring better data accuracy across taxpayer records. With the transition to the Income-tax Act, 2025 and Rules, 2026, the government is updating compliance procedures to align with the new system.
What Applicants Should Do
Taxpayers seeking corrections—such as name changes, date of birth updates, or address modifications—should now use the newly notified forms from April 1 onward. Applications filed using older formats may not be accepted going forward.
