Kolkata: Passengers are expected to face major inconvenience as multiple trains will remain cancelled for 18 consecutive days due to interlocking work on the Burdwan–Durgapur-Asansol section. It is one of the busiest railway routes in Eastern India.
According to an official notification from the Eastern Railway, multiple long-distance and local trains have been cancelled, diverted, or rescheduled due to the interlocking work. The disruption will continue from October 6 to October 23, 2025, affecting trains running between Howrah, Asansol, Dhanbad, Gwalior, Agra, and other major cities.

Indian Railway Officials have advised passengers to check train status before travel and plan alternate modes of journeys accordingly, as heavy rush and confusion are expected during the festive season.

12340 Dhanbad–Howrah Coalfield Express
22387 Howrah–Dhanbad Black Diamond Express - October 23:

13128 Ara–Kolkata Express
12175 Howrah–Gwalior Chambal Express
12339 Howrah–Dhanbad Coalfield Express - October 22:
13044 Raxaul–Howrah Express
12176 Gwalior–Howrah Chambal Express
12326 Nangal Dam–Kolkata Gurumukhi SF Express
13127 Kolkata–Ara Express
13168 Agra Cantt–Kolkata Express
…and many more long-distance trains connecting Kolkata, Sealdah, Darbhanga, Bhopal, Amritsar, and Nangal Dam will remain affected till October 23.

Multiple-Day Cancellations
Several Local MEMU and Express trains between Barddhaman–Asansol, Sealdah–Asansol, and Howrah–Prayagraj routes will be cancelled on multiple days in October and November 2025.
Some of them:
- 12333/34 Vibhuti Express (Howrah–Prayagraj Rambag)
- 22388/87 Black Diamond Express
- 22911/12 Shipra Express
- 63505–63552 MEMU Services between Barddhaman, Andal, Durgapur, and Asansol
Railway officials have asked passengers to:
- Recheck their train’s operational status before travel.
- Maintain alternate arrangements during these 18 days.
- Note that heavy rush is expected on available trains and road transport.
Reason for Cancellation
These train cancellations are due to interlocking and track maintenance work being undertaken between Burdwan and Durgapur, which is a vital corridor for both passenger and freight movement.
