Aadhaar Update: UIDAI Waives Biometric Update Charges for Children Aged 7–15; Over 6 Crore Children to Benefit
New Delhi: Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a complete waiver of charges for Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) in Aadhaar card for children aged 7 to 15 years, effective from October 1, 2025. These charges are waived for a period of one year.

The decision by UIDAI is expected to benefit nearly 6 crore children across India to simplify education, scholarships, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes.
Under Aadhaar regulations, children below five years of age receive Aadhaar cards based only on demographic details and photographs, as their biometrics are not fully developed. Their first biometric update (MBU-1) is required once they turn five years old, followed by a second update (MBU-2) at 15 years.
Previously, these biometric updates were free only for children aged 5–7 years and 15–17 years, while updates outside these age brackets attracted a fee of ₹125. With this waiver, all biometric updates for children between 5 and 17 years of age are now completely free.

UIDAI stated that updated biometrics ensure easier access to Aadhaar-based services like school admissions, exam registrations, and scholarship disbursals. Parents and guardians have been encouraged to complete the biometric updates for their wards at the earliest.
