Suggestion for Global Branding: NCIB Proposes Name Change for Arattai and Zoho Mail, Will the new name be as popular as Meta’s WhatsApp?

New Delhi: National Crime Investigation Bureau (NCIB) has suggested renaming two of the company’s growing platforms—Arattai and Zoho Mail, to increase their global appeal. The letter highlights the potential benefits of modernized, internationally-friendly names while maintaining India’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” initiative by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

NCIB acknowledged the contributions of Zoho Corporation to India’s indigenous technology ecosystem and praised the platforms as strong examples of the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision.

However, it pointed out that the name “Arattai” may not resonate easily on the global stage despite the app’s technical excellence and a strong competition to Meta’s WhatsApp. A new, universally appealing name could accelerate international adoption, strengthen the “Made in India” brand, and project India-first innovation globally.

Similarly, the NCIB recommended a shorter, modern rebranding for Zoho Mail. The proposed “zmail” would make the service more memorable, catchy, and internationally competitive, further enhancing India’s presence in the global digital market while maintaining its reputation as a reliable email platform.

The letter emphasizes that these changes are more than branding—they represent an opportunity to showcase India’s digital self-reliance to the world.

NCIB believes that such small yet strategic updates could mark a historic step toward establishing Indian technology with a strong global identity.

Signed by Suresh Shukla, Chairman/Director of NCIB, the letter urges Zoho Corporation to consider these suggestions as a forward-looking step to boost India’s technological footprint internationally.
