PhonePe, Paytm, GPay Users Alert: UPI to Get Biometric Authentication from October 8 – No More PIN Needed

New Delhi: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) are preparing to roll out biometric authentication for digital payments.

This will allow users to approve transactions using fingerprints or facial recognition, and it will remove the need to enter a UPI PIN for verification.

According to sources, the NPCI, which operates the UPI network, will introduce this new Aadhaar-linked biometric verification system at the ongoing Global Fintech Festival in Mumbai.

RBI’s new proposed authentication upgrade will rely on India’s Aadhaar database. It will enable users to authenticate payments through facial scans or fingerprints instead of using PIN.
