Indian Railways Issues New Notification on NPS: Important Update for Employees Under National Pension System

New Delhi: Ministry of Railways has released an important notification on October 1, 2025, introducing new updates to the National Pension System (NPS) for railway employees.

According to the notification, the latest changes focus on ensuring timely pension processing, easy contributions, and improving coordination between field offices and the Central Recordkeeping Agency (CRA).

Under the new rules, railway divisions and zones have been directed to ensure that all NPS-related deductions, remittances, and subscriber details are uploaded promptly to avoid any mismatch in records.

The notification also says about account verification before retirement, so that retiring employees under NPS do not face issues in getting their pension corpus.

Railways has also understood the need for regular monitoring of PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Number) activities and reconciliation of employee contributions through the respective payroll systems.

Any pending issues related to missed credits or incorrect mapping of subscribers are to be resolved with priority.

Additionally, the notification clarifies that NPS data migration and compliance will be closely reviewed by the headquarters, and officers-in-charge will be held responsible for lapses or delays.

Railway employees and administrative offices have been instructed to carefully follow the new directions and refer to the full notification for detailed procedures and responsibilities.
