GPF Interest Rate Unchanged for Q3 FY 2025-26: Finance Ministry Issues Resolution

NEW DELHI: Government of India has maintained the interest rate on the General Provident Fund (GPF) and other similar funds at 7.1% for the third quarter of the financial year 2025–26, effective from October 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.

Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs (Budget Division), announced the decision through a resolution dated October 10, 2025.

According to the official notification (F. No. 5(3)-B(PD)/2023), the interest rate will apply to the following funds:

• The General Provident Fund (Central Services)
• The Contributory Provident Fund (India)
• The All India Services Provident Fund
• The State Railway Provident Fund
• The General Provident Fund (Defence Services)
• The Indian Ordnance Department Provident Fund
• The Indian Ordnance Factories Workmen’s Provident Fund
• The Indian Naval Dockyard Workmen’s Provident Fund
• The Defence Services Officers Provident Fund
• The Armed Forces Personnel Provident Fund

The resolution, signed by Vyasan R., Joint Secretary to the Government of India, directs that the order be published in the Gazette of India for general information.

The interest rate of 7.1% has remained unchanged for several consecutive quarters, to match the interest rate offered under the Public Provident Fund (PPF).

This continuity reflects the government’s steady approach to small savings and provident fund interest policies amid the current economic climate.
