Good News for Pensioners! EPFO and IPPB Join Hands to Offer Free Doorstep Digital Life Certificate Service for Pensioners
NEW DELHI: Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has joined hands with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) to provide free doorstep Digital Life Certificate (DLC) services.
The initiative, approved under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995 (EPS-95), aims to ease the annual Life Certificate submission process and make it accessible to pensioners living in rural and remote areas.
Under this partnership, EPFO will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IPPB to enable pensioners to submit their life certificates without visiting banks or EPFO offices. The service will be delivered through IPPB & Department of Posts extensive postal network, using its technology-enabled postal staff to visit pensioners at home.
According to the Ministry of Labour & Employment, the ₹50 cost per Digital Life Certificate will be entirely borne by EPFO, making the service completely free of charge for all pensioners.
The decision is expected to improve ease of living for elderly citizens, ensure timely pension continuity, and facilitate faster initiation of family pensions under the Centralised Pension Payment System (CPPS).
Life Certificate submission deadlines for 2025:
- Super Senior Citizens (80 years and above): From October 1, 2025
- All other pensioners (below 80 years): From November 1, 2025
- Final submission deadline for all: November 30, 2025
“This initiative will allow pensioners, especially those in remote regions, to submit their life certificates from home through IPPB’s network, enhancing convenience and efficiency,” the Ministry said in a statement.
The doorstep DLC service ensures that pensioners no longer need to stand in long queues or travel long distances to submit their certificates. Timely submission also helps maintain uninterrupted pension payments and accurate record-keeping within the CPPS framework.
