West Bengal News: EC Issues Show-Cause Notices to Over 1,000 Booth Level Officers in West Bengal
WEST BENGAL NEWS: Election Commission of India (ECI) has sent show-cause notices to more than 1,000 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in West Bengal for not following its orders.
According to sources, the recruitment of BLOs in the state started in April 2025, but many of them failed to take charge even by October 17.
Election Commission has now asked them to explain why they did not follow the directives, warning that legal action may be taken under the Representation of the People Act, 1950, if their replies are found unsatisfactory.
The move comes ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list, which is expected to begin soon across the country. Given the current situation, the Election Commission is closely monitoring the electoral preparations in West Bengal.
Officials said the Commission has been holding a two-day meeting with Chief Electoral Officers and Additional Chief Electoral Officers from all states (except Bihar) to review the upcoming voter list revision and related issues.
The situation in West Bengal, where BLOs failed to assume their duties on time, is expected to be discussed in detail during these meetings.
