Delhi Govt Launches ‘Pink Saheli Smart Card’ for Free Bus Travel of Women and Transgender Commuters
New Delhi: Delhi Government on Sunday announced the launch of the ‘Pink Saheli Smart Card’, a new initiative that will allow women and transgender commuters to travel free of cost across all Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses operating in the national capital.
The announcement was made to replace the existing paper-based pink tickets with a digital smart card system to ensure transparency, convenience, and security in the free travel scheme.
The new card is designed under the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) framework and will carry the name and photograph of the beneficiary.
According to the Delhi Government, women and transgender residents of Delhi aged 12 years or above will be eligible for the Pink Saheli Smart Card. The initiative aims to promote gender-inclusive mobility, encourage the use of public transport, and enhance safety and accessibility for women across the city.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Pink Saheli Smart Card is a step towards empowering women and creating a safer, more inclusive city. “This initiative is a significant step towards making travel easier for women in Delhi, promoting the use of public transport, and providing more facilities and respect to women’s power,” she said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Officials stated that the smart card can also be recharged for use in other modes of public transport in the future. The Delhi government has directed DTC to ensure smooth implementation and wide publicity for the new digital pass.
The move is expected to benefit lakhs of women and transgender passengers who depend on public transport for work, education, and daily commutes. It also aligns with Delhi’s broader vision to modernize its transport network with digital and contactless payment systems.
