Bank holiday on Guru Nanak Jayanti : Are banks open or closed on 5 November 2025? Know State-wise Bank Holiday status

NEW DELHI: Banks across several Indian states will remain closed on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, in observance of Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, marking the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, the closure applies to banks in multiple states, including Mizoram, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Himachal Pradesh.

The day also coincides with Kartika Purnima and Rahas Purnima in certain regions, leading to extended bank closures depending on local observances. Customers planning in-person banking activities are advised to complete transactions in advance or use online and mobile banking services during the long weekend.

Digital Banking Services Remain Open
Despite the physical branch closures, digital banking channels such as internet banking, mobile apps, ATMs, and UPI payments will remain fully functional. Customers can access account statements, transfer funds, and make bill payments online without interruption.

The month of November will witness several regional bank holidays, including:

November 1: Kannada Rajyothsava / Igas-Bagwal

November 5: Guru Nanak Jayanti / Kartika Purnima / Rahas Purnima

November 6: Nongkrem Dance / Bihar Legislative Assembly Election

November 7: Wangala Festival

November 8: Kanakadasa Jayanthi

These holidays vary by state and region, as per the RBI’s official notification.
