Government Notifies National Cadet Corps (Girls Division) Amendment Rules, 2025 for Promotion of Junior Wing Officers

NEW DELHI: Ministry of Defence has issued a notification announcing the National Cadet Corps (Girls Division) Amendment Rules, 2025, bringing changes to the promotion structure of Junior Wing Officers under the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Act, 1948.

The amendment was published in the Official Gazette on 31 October 2025.

As per the notification (S.R.O. 39), the rules amend Schedule III of the NCC (Girls Division) Rules, 1949, revising the timeline and designations for substantive promotions of Junior Wing Officers. The updated provision states:

  • On being first commissioned – Second Officer
  • After 8 years of commissioned service – First Officer
  • After 15 years of commissioned service – Chief Officer

The notification, issued under the authority of Section 13 of the National Cadet Corps Act, 1948 (31 of 1948), was signed by Suneet Kumar Dwivedi, Under Secretary to the Government of India.

This amendment modernizes the promotion framework for women officers in the NCC Girls Division, ensuring clarity and alignment with the tenure-based structure of the organization.

The principal rules were originally published in the Gazette of India (Part I, Section 3) via S.R.O. 451 dated 18 March 1950, and were last amended through a letter issued on 12 January 2004. The 2025 amendment marks the first major update to the promotion criteria for Junior Wing Officers in over two decades.
