Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens across India to check and reclaim unclaimed financial assets that belong to them or their families under the ‘Your Money, Your Right’ initiative.

During his address at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, the Prime Minister highlighted startling figures regarding unclaimed financial assets in India. Banks are currently holding nearly ₹78,000 crore of unclaimed deposits, insurance companies have around ₹14,000 crore of unclaimed proceeds, mutual funds are associated with ₹3,000 crore in unclaimed amounts, and an estimated ₹9,000 crore in unpaid dividends remains unclaimed. These are savings and investments accumulated over many years, belonging to millions of households.

To make the claim process easier for individuals, dedicated online platforms have been provided by financial regulators and government agencies. These include the UDGAM Portal of the Reserve Bank of India for identifying unclaimed bank deposits and dormant balances, the Bima Bharosa Portal of IRDAI for unclaimed insurance proceeds, the MITRA Portal of SEBI for mutual fund holdings, and the IEPFA Portal of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs for unpaid dividends and unclaimed shares. Citizens can use these portals to locate their funds and initiate claims without hassle.

The government has organised facilitation camps in 477 districts across the country, including rural and remote regions, to help citizens use these platforms and complete claim procedures.

According to official data, nearly ₹2,000 crore has already been returned to rightful owners through coordinated efforts of the government, regulators, banks, and financial institutions.

Prime Minister urged every citizen to verify whether they or their families have unclaimed deposits, dividends, shares or insurance amounts. He encouraged people to visit the official portals, seek support from local facilitation camps, and claim their rightful financial assets. The initiative aims to strengthen financial inclusion, increase transparency,y and convert forgotten assets into new opportunities for families.

Prime Minister Modi urged upon citizens to work together to make India more financially aware and empowered, ensuring that unclaimed savings return to households where they belong.
