8th Pay Commission Formation Awaits Stakeholder Inputs, Govt Confirms No Fiscal Delay in Rajya Sabha
New Delhi: Government of India has confirmed that the 8th Central Pay Commission (8th CPC) will be constituted, but its official notification is pending as the Union Government still awaits inputs from key stakeholders.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha Unstarred Question (No. 2642) on 12 August 2025, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed that inputs for the Commission’s terms of reference were sought from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Personnel & Training, and all states in January and February 2025. However, some responses are still pending.
The government has decided to constitute the 8th CPC, dismissing fiscal concerns as a reason for delay. But, no fixed timeline has been provided for issuing the notification or appointing the Chairperson and Members by the Central Government. However, it was assured that it would be done “in due course.”

The upcoming 8th CPC (Central Pay Commission) will review and recommend changes in pay, allowances, and pension structures for central government employees and pensioners.
