Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) has launched multiple campaigns to increase participation. Among them is the Multiple Scheme Framework (MSF), effective October 1, 2025, which offers investors greater flexibility and choice in managing their retirement portfolios.
Additionally, the recently launched NPS Platform Workers Model—developed in partnership with Zomato and HDFC Pension—extends pension coverage to gig and platform-based workers.
PFRDA has also released a consultation paper on restructuring the NPS payout system, proposing graded withdrawals and flexible annuity options to improve retirement adequacy.
Union Government wants to expand coverage of these 2 pension schemes among farmers, MSME workers, self-help group (SHG) members, and other informal sector participants.
